Losing weight has been a real transformation in my life.
When you take medicines for an illness like diabetes, you feel you will be taking them all your life. You are far from imagining that one day you will be able to do without them. And it really is a piece of luck when you get there and it lasts.
My excess weight settled in over the years; I paid no particular attention either to the kilos I was putting on or to the way I was eating. I was already overweight when I had a very serious road accident. Several operations followed, with heavy consequences for my health and also for my morale. And at that point I lost control of everything; I became downright obese, at 89 kg for 1.61.
It was during that time that my type 2 diabetes appeared. I started treatment. Fairly quickly I was on two medicines. And despite that treatment, my diabetes remained poorly controlled. My haemoglobin was at 8.9.
My own doctor insisted that I take myself in hand. He explained that by losing weight I could improve my diabetes, settle it, reduce the medicines, and perhaps cure it! At first I was completely disbelieving and above all hesitant, because I dreaded the constraints of a diet. He had to insist! And today, I thank him for having done so. So I started following the Food Monad on the site. From the very beginning it was very encouraging. By the end of the first week, I had lost almost 3 kg. It carried on in the following weeks at between 600 and 800 grams a week. It took me between four and five months to get to – 15 kg. I know you can do better. But I got there and I am proud of it. All the more so as, over the following months, I managed to lose another 3 kg. Today, I have lost 18 kg in all.
Losing weight has been a real transformation in my life, first of all where the diabetes is concerned. As soon as I found myself at 5.6, all my medicines were stopped. Today I make do with keeping an eye on my haemoglobin. And it is always below 6. And without treatment.
On the mental side, that loss has also done me an enormous amount of good. It has allowed me to accept myself and to feel good in my body. When I see photos of myself from before, I find it hard to understand that I had reached that stage.
In fact, the Monad is just advice. You are told what to do and why it has to be done. And it seems so obvious to you that all you want is to get on with it.
This method is the most logical I have ever seen. It is easy to understand and easy to put in place. And the follow-up on the site is reassuring.
Personally, I am not a great fan of sport, and I also appreciated not being obliged to take up any extra sporting activity to help me lose. On the other hand, I now walk.
I obviously recommend this method first of all to every type 2 diabetic carrying excess weight. When you take medicines for an illness like diabetes, you feel you will be taking them all your life. You are far from imagining that one day you will be able to do without them. And it really is a piece of luck when you get there and it lasts. I thank my doctor for his help.
